Now that Jim is in Denali Center, our puppy Abbie can go and visit. I took her with me when I went back in to visit Jim this evening, and she was a hit with all the nurses. Even nursing staff that had no involvement in Jim's care found an excuse to 'stop by and check out the puppy'. Abbie accommodated them all by rolling over on her back and showing off her naked belly so they could rub it, while all the time wagging her tail madly. I also put her on Jim's bed so he could pet her, and she was so very gentle with him. As soon as his hand got in range, she knew that she could not bite him with her teeth like she does most everyone else, and proceeded to give him a very thorough hand-washing instead.
Jim is comfortable. He has his air bed, his morphine drip, and occasionally a nurse gets 'close enough.' His right hand is still very quick, so he's having a really good time, knowing that he can get away with it ...
Denali Center has no Internet connection, so I will continue to post updates whenever I can.
